While the Internet is a great resource, particularly for those who want to explore a new hobby, it is important to keep in mind that not everything posted online is true and accurate. For many people, determining the truthfulness or reliability of online information can be difficult. When deciding whether or not to trust something on the Internet, there are a number of things a person should keep in mind. First of all, check the source links for online articles or blog posts. Webpages often include a link that a person can use to determine where the information on the page originated. By reading the information on the source page, an Internet user can get a better idea of the type of information that is being presented. In particular, it can help the reader determine whether or not the information is a fact, or just one person’s opinion. Finally, be aware of anecdotal evidence a person might use the back up an idea. This type of evidence is generally not reliable, since it is based off one person’s unique perception or impression of an event or idea. More reliable information can be backed up or proved by hard evidence, not anecdotes.
